Bloomsburg Sweeps PSAC East Weekly Softball Awards

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University softball players Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) and Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) have been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively for the period ending March 27th.

Roba, a designated player/first baseman, hit .500 for the week (7-14) with two homers and eight RBI. She also added four doubles and four runs scored and had a slugging percentage of 1.214 for the week. In a twinbill with West Chester on Friday, the senior was 3-7 with a two-run homer in each end of the doubleheader. Earlier in the week she was four for seven with four RBI in two games against Felecian College.

For the season, Roba, leads the team in batting with a mark of .520 and has career-highs in home runs with four and RBI with 28. She also has 12 doubles and has scored 17 runs.

Smith, a senior, was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two games last week. She allowed just eight hits in 12 innings of work while striking out 16 and walking just three. She had one solo shutout and one combined shutout for the week. Opponents hit just .182 off her as she stretched her personal winning streak to 10 games dating back to last season.

On the season, Smith is 7-0 with a 0.68 ERA with five complete games, two shutouts and a team-high 64 strikeouts and just 13 base-on-balls.

Bloomsburg is off to a 19-1 start on the season and has won its last 14 straight. The Huskies visit Millersville on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
