SALEM, VA—Bloomsburg University softball player Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) was named a first team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Wednesday night. The announcement was made at the banquet honoring the teams competing for the NCAA Division II softball championship.
Roba, a senior, is the Huskies' designated player and is hitting a career-high .407 with a career-best eight homers and 52 RBI. At last week's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional championships, Robawent 7-13 with four RBI, including three in the Huskies' 10-1 win over Lock Haven in coach Jan Hutchinson's 1,000th win.
Roba started the season with a 16-game hitting streak and has gotten at least one hit in 41 of 52 games this season. Her best game of the season came in a win over Virginia Union when she went 3-3 with a homer and six RBI.
Some of the awards for Roba this season include being named to the NCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team; first team All-PSAC and the PSAC East Player of the Week at the end of March.
Bloomsburg, 44-8, will face Concordia (MN) in a first round game.
NOTES FROM THE TOURNAMENT
The Huskies performed some community service prior to the start of the tournament taking time out to visit a local elementary school and read to some of the classes.
At the banquet each of the teams had two players come up and give a speech or tell about their team. Bloomsburg was represented by Amanda Breon and Sara Roba who both put together poems talking about their team.
