Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Virginia State in Softball
PETERSBURG, VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept two games from Virginia State on Saturday winning by scores of 19-0 and 18-1. Both games were called after five innings by the mercy rule.
Bloomsburg pitcher Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) allowed just one hit in the game, one day after the Huskies did not allow a hit in beating Virginia Union. Smith got the first nine outs of the game by strike out and finished the game with 12.
The Huskies got all the runs they would need in the first inning when Bloomsburg put six runs on the board. Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) had a two-run double in the inning, while Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) and Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) each had RBI singles. Bloomsburg also scored once on a passed ball and another time on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
In game two, the Huskies 10 times in the first inning on its way to an easy win. Bloomsburg's first three runs came across on passed balls, while Tara Emery (Sunbury/Shikellamy) had an RBI single, while Kristin Koveleski (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) had an RBI triple.
Freshman Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) struck out 11 and walked just one in pitching the Huskies to the win.
The Huskies, 11-1, will play at Philadelphia University on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
