Bloomsburg Softball Gets No-Hitter and Perfect Game in Sweep

RICHMOND, VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team did not allow a hit in beating Virginia Union twice on Friday winning by scores of 21-0 and 14-0. The Huskies won game one with a no-hitter from freshman Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) and a perfect game from junior Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) in the nightcap.

The feat marks the first time since 1995 that the Huskies have not allowed a hit in either end of a doubleheader and just the second time in school history, the other coming in 1986, that the Huskies won a doubleheader with a no-hitter and a perfect game.

In game one, the Huskies scored 14 times in the first inning going through the lineup twice with Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte), the leadoff hitter, getting three at-bats in the inning. Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) had a double to drive in a couple of runs, while Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) hit a grand slam. The Huskies also scored five times in the second and added single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Fisher was strong all game striking 13 batters and allowed just one base runner via a walk.

In the nightcap, the Huskies' Jen Probst tossed the 10th perfect game in school history by striking out 11 and not allowing a walk.

Bloomsburg gave Probst all the runs she would need in the first inning when the Huskies scored 11 times. Probst was one of the big hitters getting a two-run double in the first and then later added a two-run homer in the fourth ining.

Bloomsburg last threw back-to-back no-hitters in 1995 against East Stroudsburg when April Paoli and Connie Reese accomplished the feat. Back in 1986, assistant coach, then player, Susan Kocher threw a no-hitter and a perfect game in back-to-back games against IUP. The Huskies first pulled off the back-to-back no-hitters in 1984 when Kocher and Chris Moyer did it against Mansfield.

The Huskies, 9-1, conclude their spring trip Saturday with games against Virginia State.
