Huskies Beat West Chester in Softball

WEST CHESTER—The Bloomsburg University softball team opened its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division schedule with a sweep of West Chester on Friday winning by scores of 4-0 and 8-0.

In the opener the Huskies used two, two-run homers to beat the Golden Rams. Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) hit a two-run homer in the first inning, while Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) added a two-run shot in the third inning for Bloomsburg.

Senior Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) went the first five innings to earn the win. Smith fanned six and walked just one to get her seventh win of the season. Freshman Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) pitched the final two innings and struck out two. She also allowed the first two hits of her career. Fisher had pitched 15 innings without allowing a hit to start her career, which included two wins by no-hitter. She still has not allowed a run in 17 innings of work.

In game two, the game was scoreless through four innings when the Huskies broke through and scored five times. Bloomsburg got an RBI triple from Breon in the inning along with a two-run homers from Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) and a solo homer from Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore). In the seventh inning, Roba added another two-run homer and Tina Jennosa (Downingtown/Hauppauge) a solo shot.

Freshman Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) struck out four and walked two in the win.

The Huskies, 19-1, will play at the University of the Sciences on Monday at 3 p.m.
