Bloomsburg Throws a Pair of Shutouts at West Chester in Softball

BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a doubleheader from West Chester on Wednesday by scores of 4-0 and 7-0. In all, Bloomsburg pitchers combined for 22 strikeouts, while allowing just seven total hits.

In game one, Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) pitched a five hitter for the Huskies while striking out 12 and not walking a batter.

Bloomsburg once in the first on an RBI single from Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus); once in third on a single from Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) and twice in the sixth with Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) bringing in one run with a triple, while scoring herself on a ground out from Roba.

Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) led the offense going 3-3 in the game.

In game two, freshman Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) pitched the first six innings to earn the win. Lynn struckout 10 and did not issue a walk, while giving up just two hits. Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) pitched the last inning for the Huskies.

Offensively, the Huskies all they needed in the fourth inning by scoring four times. Sarah McDaniel (Dallastown/Dallastown) had an RBI with Breon tripling in a run and Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) plating another with double. In the fifth, the Huskies put three runs up with Lynn helping herself with a two-run triple.

Wolfe went 2-4 in the game and was the only Bloomsburg player with more than one hit in the game.

Bloomsburg improves to 31-5, 12-4 in the PSAC East wit the wins. West Chester falls to 14-21, 2-14 in the PSAC East.

The Huskies are back in action on Friday hosting Millersville at 2:30 p.m.
