Two Former Bloomsburg Athletes Nominated for DII Softball 25th Anniversary Team

BLOOMSBURG- Two former Bloomsburg University softball players, Jean Buskirk and Marty Laudato, have been nominated for the NCAA 25th Anniversary Division II softball team. The NCAA is celebrating the 25th anniversary of women's championships and has created this team to celebrate the milestone. The team will consist of 10 players and one coach. There are 35 players nominated as well as four coaches.

Buskirk patrolled the outfield for Bloomsburg from 1990-93. She was an NFCA All American in 1992 and 1993 and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 1991 and 1993. In 1991 she helped lead the Huskies to the national title game before losing 3-2 in extra innings to Augustana. In addition, she ranks seventh in school history in career hits with 235.

Laudato, a catcher, played for the Huskies from 1989-1992 and was a teammate of Buskirk's for three seasons. She was a three-time NFCA All-American, winning the award from 1990-1992. She was also a member of the 1992 NCAA All-Tournament team where Bloomsburg finished third in the nation. That year she became the first Bloomsburg player to win National Player of the Year Honors. Laudato also ranks second in school history with 284 career hits, fifth in career home runs with 33, second in RBI with 200, and seventh in runs scored with 161.
