Bloomsburg Softball Team wins Carole Weil College Fall Classic
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University Softball team had an impressive showing in fall season action as it won the 18th annual Carole Weil College Fall Classic in Allentown.
In the first game of the tournament against Lafayette College, Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) pitched a no-hitter for the Huskies. Fisher pitched seven innings, striking out five and walking two.
Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) took over pitches duties in game two against LaSalle's University. Lynn pitched six innings for the Huskies, striking out two batters for the win.
In the championship game, Missy Backhert's (Coplay/Parkland) homerun in the top of the seventh was the difference in the 1-0 win over Albany to capture the tournament championship. Lynn pitched seven innings for the Huskies in her second game of the day, with only six hits and eight strike outs.
The Huskies had a total of four homeruns in the tournament. Stacy Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) had three while Missy Bachert added another. Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) was 11-20 in the tournament with a batting average of .550 while freshman Nichole Shiko was 7-20 with a .350 average.
