Pientack and Lazorka Lead Bloomsburg to Sweep

MANSFIELD-The Bloomsburg University softball team, ranked ninth in Division II, extended its winning streak to nine games with a doubleheader sweep of Mansfield University on Wednesday. The Huskies won by scores of 6-3 and 9-1.

In game one, the Huskies got going early taking a 2-0 lead after one inning. Nikki Shiko (Shamokin/Southern Columbia) opened the game with a walk and later scored on an RBI single by Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia). Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore), who also walked in the inning, came in to score on an RBI double by Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View). Bloomsburg made it 3-0 with a run in the second with Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) getting an RBI single.

The Huskies made it 6-0 with three runs in the sixth inning with Lazorka and Pientack picking up RBI hits. Mauro and Pientack both had two hits in the game and drove in two runs each. Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic), allowed six and no earned runs and struckout seven to get the win. In the nightcap, Pientack had two hits, scored twice and drove in three to lead the Huskies to a 9-1 win. Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead in the third when Mauro doubled home two runs and would make it 4-0 with two more runs in the fifth. Pientack drove in one run with a single, while Shen DeBaro (Milton/Milton) drew a bases loaded walk to force in the second run.

The Huskies put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth with Pientack getting the big hit,a two-run single that made it 6-0. Freshman Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) went the distance allowing just one run, while striking out five and not allowing a walk.

For the doubleheader Pientack went 4-8 and drove in five runs, while Lazorka went 4-6 with two RBI.

Bloomsburg, now 25-3,6-0 in the PSAC Central, will host East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
