Neyahrd and Shiko Lead Huskies to Sweep

ORLANDO, FL-The Bloomsburg University softball team ran its winning streak to six games to open the 2010 season with a pair of victories of Saturday. The Huskies beat Bentley University, 8-0,then dropped Millersville,7-1.
In game one, the Huskies posted an 8-0 win over Bentley. Bloomsburg got all the offense it would need in the third inning when it scored four times. Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) had the big hit in the inning with a three-run triple. Later in the game Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) drove in two runs with a double and a triple.
Freshman Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) went the distance in the circle allowing just four hits, striking out seven and walking just one.
Against the Marauders, pitcher Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning before giving up a single. She lost her shutout in the seventh after giving up a run scoring double. Bloomsburg broke up a 1-0 game with six runs in the second inning.
The Huskies opened the second with singles from Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) and Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown West). Both runners came home on a double by Nikki Shiko (Shamokin/Southern Columbia).
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) then singled home Shiko for a 4-0 lead. Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) followed two batters later with a two run double making it 6-0. Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) finished off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Shiko finished 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Young was 2-3 with a run scored. Fisher finished with a three hitter and struck out seven and walked three.
The Huskies, 6-0, play against American International and Assumption College on Sunday starting at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. respectively.
