Bloomsburg University Track to Compete at PSAC Championships
BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams will compete at the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which run from Thursday, May 1st through Saturday, May 3 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Miller Stadium.
On the women's side, the Huskies are led by Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) and Andrea Kellock (Lansdale/North Penn).
Hackenberg broke the school record in the 5,000 meters at the Penn Relays with a time of 17:16.42, surpassing her previous mark and school record by 27 seconds. It currently ranks as the third fastest time in that event this spring amongst PSAC runners. The time also qualified her for the NCAA Championships at Cal Poly Pomona for the third time in her career. She will also compete for the Huskies in the 3,000 meters.
Kellock's 17:21.10 in the 5,000 meters is the fifth-fastest time in the PSAC this spring, and it qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Kellock initially set the school record in the 5,000 meters at the Bucknell University Distance Carnival with a time of 17:27.76 before it was broken by Hackenberg.
Also competing in the 5,000 meters are Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) and Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton). Schwing qualified in the 5,000 meters by finishing 11th with a time of 18:28.44 at the Wake Forest Invitational, and then improving that time by nearly 25 seconds at the Penn Relays with a time of 18:03.85. Shuck qualified in the 3,000 meters when she finished first overall at the Lock Haven Invitational with a time of 10:36.00. All four will also represent the Huskies in the 3,000 meters.
Sandy Newell (St. Mary's/Elk County Catholic) will represent the Huskies in the 800 Meters. She qualified by running a 2:17.78 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
On the men's side, Dan Tallarico (Pittsburgh/North Hills) will represent the Huskies in the 800 meters. Tallarico placed sixth at the PSAC Track Challenge with a time of 1:59.43.
Misha Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) will represent the Huskies in the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters. Litvinov ran a personal-best and the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:54.11 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and Tim Marcoe (Lansdale/Lansdale Catholic) will also run in the 10,000 meters for Bloomsburg. Marcoe and Dalton both qualified for the PSAC championships at the Bucknell University Distance Carnival, where Dalton ran a 32:09.67, the sixth fastest time in school history; while Marcoe ran a 32:41.64, the ninth best ever for the Huskies.
In the men's steeplechase the Huskies will be represented by Jimmy Stockley (Elverson/Twin Valley).
Daily tickets for the event are $7 for adults, $2 for students. All students currently enrolled at a PSAC member institution will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
