BU Competes at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, NC-- The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams took part in the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday and Saturday with several athletes posting qualifying times for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships.

On the women's side, Sandy Newell (St. Mary's/Elk County Catholic) qualified in both the 800 and 1500 meters. Her time of 2:17.78 in the 800 was the fifth fastest in school history, while in the 1500, she finished in 4:52.61, eighth best in school history, good enough for 28th out of 90 competitors. She was also the first division II finisher in the event.

At 3,000 meters, Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) and Andrea Kellock (Lansdale/North Penn) finished 17th and 19th out of 50 runners and were the first division II finishers with times of 10:49.99 and 10:50.40 respectively.

In the 5,000 meter event, Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) and Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton) both ran PSAC-qualifying times. Schwing was 11th in 18:28.44, while Shuck was 12th in 18:34.87 out of 48 runners.

For the men, Misha Litvinov (Drums/Hazleton) ran a personal best and the fifth fastest time in school history at 10,000 meters finishing ninth of 21 in 31:54.11. At 5,000 meters, Mike Dalton ran personal best of 15:26.42, while Austin Martzall (Myerstown/ELCO) ran a 16:06.58 and Jake Stamey (Danville/Danville) a 16:15.97. In the steeplechase, Jimmy Stockley (Elverson/Twin Valley) ran a 9:55.61, good for 11th of 24 runners. At 800 meters, Dan Tallerico (Pittsburgh/North Hills) ran a 1:59.09, just missing the PSAC qualifying time.
