Track and Field Teams Compete at Bucknell and West Chester

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track and field teams had a busy weekend competing at both the Bucknell University meet on Friday and the West Chester Invitational on both Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night the Huskies had six athletes qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships. At 5,000 meters qualifying for the women were Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) who ran a 17:40.20, sixth best time in school history; Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) who ran an 18:17.07 and Shannon Hoffman (Watsontown/Warrior Run) who turned in an 18:24.83. At 10,000 meters, Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton) qualified with a time of 37:57.71. On the men's side two runners qualified for the PSAC championships at 5,000 meters; Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) with a time of 15:22.10 and Bobby Furman (Broomall/Marple Newton) with a time of 15:32.00.

Over at West Chester on Friday night, Mitchell Thompson (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) was third in the pole vault with a mark of 14' 7.25" (4.45 meters) and Auston Martzall (Myerstown/ELCO) third at 10,000 meters with a time of 34:25 to take third place in that event.

On Saturday at West Chester, competing in cold, rainy conditions, the Huskies had several top five performances. Katie Corson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) was fifth in the 400 in 62.62, while Meck was fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:26.17. At 1500 meters, Samantha Matthews (Baltimore County, MD/Gleneig) was second in 5:15.47 with Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield/Cardinal O'Hara) was third in 5:20.87.

In the javelin, Sandy Anceravage (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) was third with a toss of 96' 6" (29.41 meters) with Laura Schlotterbeck (Berwick/Berwick) fourth with a mark of 93'0" (28.36 meters).

For the men on Saturday, turning personal bests in the 400 were Nate Snodgrass (Downingtown/Downingtown West) in 51.85 and Jamie Waack (Leesport/Schuylkill Valley) in 52.20. In the 100 Joe Illenye (Lincoln Park, NJ/Boonton) had a personal best time of 12.12 seconds.
