Huskies Turn in Solid Meet at Jim Taylor Invitational
Final Results
SELINSGROVE--The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams took part in the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University and turned in an outstanding meet.
On the women's side, the Huskies had four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship qualifying performances in the 1500 meters. Shannon Hoffman (Watsontown/Warrior Run) was second in 4:53.67, while Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) was seventh in 4:56.87, while Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton) and Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton) also qualified with times of 4:59.69 and 5:01.56, respectively.
In other results, Sandy Anceravage won the javelin with a throw of 115 feet, one inch (35.07m), while Lauren Bushey (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg Area) was second in the javelin with a throw of 105 feet, two inches (32.05m) with Laura Schlotterbeck (Berwick/Berwick) third in 100 feet, nine inches (30.70m) and Alyssa Benko (Catasaqua/Allentown Central Catholic) fourth with a toss of 93 feet, 10 inches (28.60m).
In the 400-meter dash, Katie Corson (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) was second in 61.63 seconds (eighth best in school history), while Erin Hanosek (Macungie/Emmaus) was eighth overall in 63.74 seconds. At 800-meters, Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) in 2:25.93, while Jessica Dorman (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) was fifth in the 400-hurdles in 74.36 seconds. In the pole vault, Julianne Spitzer (Chalfont/Central Bucks West) was fifth clearing 8 feet, six inches (2.59m). In the triple jump Hannah Becker (Grantville/Northern Lebanon) finished fifth in 32 feet, 4 and a quarter inches (9.86m) and was sixth in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 7.25 inches (1.42m).
The women's 4 x 400 relay team took first in a time of 4:17.95 with the team of Dorman, Anceravage and Corson.
For the men, Chris Sokoloski (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) won the javelin event with a personal best throw of 174 feet, six inches (53.20m), while Adam Mowry (Maple Glen/Hatboro-Horsham) was second in the pole vault in 13 feet, six inches (4.11m). In the long jump Jamie Waack (Leesport/Schuylkill Valley) was third with a jump of 20 feet, 3.75 inches.
In the 5000-meter race, Bobby Furman (Broomall/Marple Newton) was second with a time of 15.33.99 (missing the PSAC qualifying time by 0.99 seconds). Ryan Evans (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) was fourth in the 5000 in 15.54.97, while Dave Moyer (Boyertown/Boyertown) was seventh in 16.01.68.
The Huskies travel to Millersville next week for the PSAC East Challenge Meet.
