Huskies Qualify 10 For PSAC Track and Field Championships

BLOOMSBURG- The 2009 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Track and Field championships will be held May 7-9 at Millersville University and 10 members of the Bloomsburg University teams will be competing for conference titles.

On the women's side for head coach Bernie Empie, Katie Meck (Dillsburg/Northern) has qualified in the 1500, 3000 (8th-best time) and 5000-meter (5th-best time) events. Shannon Hoffman (Watsontown/Warrior Run) is a two-event qualifier for the Huskies in the 1500, and the 3000, while Ashley Shuck (Milton/Milton)also qualified at 3000 and 10,000 meters (8th-fastest time).Beth Schwing (Hershey/Lower Dauphin) has qualified in the 1500 and 5000 (9th-best time), while qualifying at 1500 meters is Angela Borealo (Easton/Easton) with Sandy Anceravage (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) earning a spot in the javelin and heptathlon competition.

For the men's team, Mike Dalton (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and Bobby Furman (Broomall/Marple Newtown) both qualified for the 5000 meter competition, while Mitchell Thompson (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) and Adam Mowry (Maple Glen/Hatboro-Horsham) both earned a spot in the pole vault competition. Dalton ran the ninth fastest time during the season in the PSAC.

Action begins on Thursday with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon at 11 a.m. Also, the women's 10,000-meter run takes place at 8 p.m. and is followed by the men's 10,000-meter final. Admission to Thursday's events is free.

Field events, beginning with the men's hammer throw and women's long jump, open competition on Friday at 12 p.m. Track events start at 1:05 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay prelims and run until 6 p.m. when the men's 5,000-meter run final closes the day.

Championship Saturday begins at 11 a.m. with the men's pole vault, men's discus and women's triple jump. Track events start at 12:30 p.m. Drawing the meet to a close is the men's 4x400-meter relay final and the awards ceremony at 4:15 p.m.

General admission for Friday or Saturday is $7 for adults and $2 for students. Students with PSACs school I.D. are admitted free of charge. Fans interested in attending the championships on Friday and Saturday can purchase a two-day pass for $12.
