Monica Starrett begins her fourth season as head coach of the women's basketball team. In her first three seasons as head coach, Starrett has guided the Huskies to two PSAC East Division titles, one NCAA playoff berth and three PSAC playoff appearances. In her first season, Starrett guided the Huskies to the NCAA playoffs, advancing to the round of 16. As the number six seed in the NCAA East Region, Bloomsburg defeated both the number two and three ranked teams in the tournament before losing in the regional final. Starrett's total of 22 wins is the record for a first-time coach at Bloomsburg, and the eighth time the women's basketball team has reached 20 wins.
Last year, the team won 17 games and made their third PSAC playoff appearance under Starrett. The Huskies won their opening round game, despite having just eight players dressed for the game.
Starrett began her career at East High School in Salt Lake City before joining the Univeristy of Utah coaching staff as an assistant. There she helped the Utes to two appearances in the NCAA Division I championships and a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championship.
Following her stint at Utah, Starrett became the head coach at Salt Lake City (Utah) Community College (SLCC) where she guided the team to a record of 38-18 overall in two seasons and two second-place finishes in the Region 18 tournament. In addition, her team ranked 10th in the nation in scoring defense and had six all-region award winners. She also worked as an academic advisor to student athletes and was a physical education instructor.
After SLCC, Starrett spent one season as an assistant coach at Bucknell University before taking the Huskies' head coaching position.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in physical education, Starrett was a three-year starter for the Utes and was named to the WAC All-Star team twice. She still holds the Utah single-game assist record with 15 and is fifth all-time in career assists with 402 and second in career assists average with a mark of 4.4.
In addition to basketball, Starrett is also an accomplished marathon runner. She has completed 12 marathons in her career, including the Boston Marathon and was a 1996 Olympic marathon qualifier in the trials.
Monica has two children, Kate, eleven years old, and Kyle, eight years old.
