Bloomsburg Downs Bowie State in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico) scored a team-high 17 points and had 11 rebounds to lead six players in double figures as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team beat Bowie State, 99-78.

The Huskies (11-7) led from start to finish in the game jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of action. After Bowie State (8-12) scored four straight to make it 7-4, the Huskies went on another 7-0 run to lead by 10 points, 14-4. Bloomsburg later stretched its advantage to 17 points, 34-17, on a layup by Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) to cap an 8-0 run.

Bowie State closed the gap back to eight points with 6:35 to play when it used a 10-1 run of its own to get back in the game. The Lady Bulldogs Allyson Hardy keyed the comeback with eight of the 10 points for the visitors.

By halftime though, the Huskies had pushed its margin back to 16 points as it closed out the half with a 13-6 run led by six points from Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM).

In the second half the Huskies wasted little time in extending its margin to 19 points, 65-46, with 14:31 to play. The closest the Lady Bulldogs would get the rest of the game would be 12 points, 68-56, with 11:27 to play in the game. Bloomsburg then went on a 14-2 run to put the game out of reach at 82-58 with 7:22 to play. Freshman Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) scored seven points in the run for the Huskies.

Along with 17 points from Bryan, Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) had 14 points, Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) 13, Rothermel and Kauczka 12 each with Kauckza adding a career-high 12 rebounds. Also reaching double figures was Meaghan Roe (Brownstown/ Conestoga) with 11 points, while also getting nine rebounds and five assists.

Bowie State was led by Hardy's 34 points, while Leketia Berry added 15.

The Huskies are back in action Wednesday night hosting Cheyney University at 6 p.m.
