Yeasted Leads Huskies to WinBLOOMSBURG—Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Reading) scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 88-65 win over Cheyney University Wednesday night. The Huskies (12-7, 4-2 PSAC East) started quickly in the game jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first 3:10 of the game. Cheyney (7-12, 1-5 PSAC East) finally got on the board with 16:49 left in the half before Bloomsburg used another run to open an 18-4 lead with 13:52 to play in the half. Yeasted scored six points in the 9-2 for the Huskies. Later, with the Huskies up by 17 at 29-12, the Wolves came back with a rally of their own and closed the margin to just five points at the break, 39-34. Shivonne Augustine led Cheyney's comeback with nine first half points. The Huskies, though, started quickly in the second half and after back-to-back three-pointers by Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) and Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM), led 49-36 with 17:37 to go in the game and the rout was on. The Huskies continued to build upon their lead and pushed it to 20 points, 64-44, with 9:15 to play on a three-pointer by Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens). Late in the game, the Huskies would get their biggest lead of the game, 27 points, when Dana Thompson's (Pocono Lake/Allentown, NJ HS) layup gave Bloomsburg an 85-58 advantage. In all 11 of the Huskies 12 players who saw action scored at lead two points. Along with Yeasted's 18 points, Albanese finished with 17 points, including five three-pointers, with seven rebounds and three assists. Burkhart added a career-high 14 points, while Thompson finished with 10. Cheyney was led by Augustine's 18 points, while Lakemia Smith added 17 and Jewel Williams 10. Bloomsburg will visit West Chester Saturday at 1 p.m. |
