Bloomsburg Loses to East Stroudsburg in Women's BasketballEAST STROUDSBURG Katie Wear scored a game-high 22 points to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 73-65 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday night. East Stroudsburg (3-14, 1-2 PSAC East) jumped out to an early 9-3 lead just three minutes into the game. The Huskies, though, came back with a 14-3 run to take a 17-12 lead with 13:02 left in the first. Freshman Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) scored eight points in the run for the Huskies, all the points she would score for the game. Later, a jumper by Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) gave Bloomsburg (9-7, 2-2 PSAC East) an eight-point lead, its biggest of the game, at 26-18 with 8:34 to play. But, with the Huskies leading by seven, 29-22, the Warriors went on a 12-2 run over the final six minutes of the first half to take a 34-31 lead into the locker room. Wear scored six points for East Stroudsburg in the rally. In the second half, the Warriors slowly built their lead up to 11 points, 50-39, at the 10:09 mark on a three-point play by Wear. However, the Huskies came storming back. Stef Kline's (Sinking Spring/Wilson) three-pointer with 8:01 to play led a 10-1 run for Bloomsburg to get the Huskies back to within two, 51-49. Kline had five of the 10 points in the run. But, East Stroudsburg put together a 10-2 of its own over the next four minutes to push the lead back to double digits, 61-51. The closest the Huskies would get the rest of the way was five points, 70-65, with 28 seconds left. Along with Wear's 22 points, Brooke Betts and Vanessa Kraft added 10 points each for the Warriors. Jen Bryan (Denever/Cocalico) led Bloomsburg with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Meaghan Roe (Brownstown/Conestoga) added 13 points. Stef Kline finished with a career-high 12 points, while Albanese also scored 12 points. Bloomsburg will host Kutztown on Wednesday at 6 p.m. |
