Bloomsburg Downs East Stroudsburg in Women's BasketballBLOOMSBURG—Meaghan Roe (Brownstown/Conestoga) scored a tam-high 18 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 73-57 win over East Stroudsburg University Saturday night. The Huskies played without leading scorer Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico) who missed the game due to a foot injury. Bloomsburg (13-9, 5-4 PSAC East) started quickly in the game jumping out to a 15-0 lead in the first six and half minutes of the game. Roe and Michele Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) combined for 11 of the team's first 15 points before the Warriors (3-20, 1-7 PSAC East) scored on a three-pointer by Niki Cox with 13:34 left in the half. The three-pointer by the Warriors started them off on a run of 15-4 and go them to within 19-15 with 8:02 left to play in the half. However, the Huskies went on a 10-2 run of their own of the next six minutes to open a 29-17 lead with 1:32 left in the opening half. In the second half the Huskies started quickly and had it biggest lead of the game, 50-28, with 15:24 to play in the game on a free throw by Courtney Camacho (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg North). The Warriors, though, got two three-pointers each from Cox and Katie Wear to pull within 11, 64-53, with 7:44 to go in the game. That would be as close as the Warriors would get the rest of the way as the Huskies allowed just a layup by Cox and two free throws from Brooke Betts over the final seven minutes of the game and went on to the win, 73-57. Along with Roe's 18 points, Bloomsburg got 14 points and 13 rebounds from Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) and 12 points from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West). Dana Thompson (Pocono Lake/Allentown, NJ HS) got the start for Bryan and scored nine points and had 11 rebounds. Bloomsburg will host Mansfield University Wednesday night at 6 p.m. |
