Huskies Down Kutztown in Women's BasketballBLOOMSBURG—Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico) and Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) each had a double-double to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 65-48 win over Kutztown University Wednesday night. The Huskies opened an 18-8 lead with 9:07 to go in the first half behind the strong play of junior Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) and Bryan. Kline scored back-to-back baskets, one a three-pointer, in a two-minute span and Bryan who had seven points in the first 11 minutes of action for Bloomsburg (10-7, 3-2 PSAC East). Kutztown, though, came right back and used a 12-3 run to close to within one at 21-20 with 3:24 left in the half. Warntz scored 10 consecutive points for the Golden Bears (9-9, 3-1 PSAC East) to lead the rally. The Huskies, though, used an 11-2 run to end the half and lead by 10 at the break. Kline hit two more three-pointers in the final a 40-second stretch and finished the half with 11 points. In the second half, the Huskies never let the lead go below 10 points and had the advantage up to as many as 20 points, 57-37, with 10:34 to play on a three-point play from Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM). The lead remained between 15 and 19 points the rest of the way as Bloomsburg knocked Kutztown from the ranks of the unbeaten in PSAC Eastern Division play. Bryan and Yeasted each finished with 12 points with Bryan adding 14 rebounds and Yeasted 12. Kline did not score in the second half and finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Warntz led Kutztown with 21 points and Jessica Pieczynski with 10 points. The Huskies play out of conference opponent Bowie State Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Nelson Field House. |
