Albanese Leads Bloomsburg to Win Over MansfieldBLOOMSBURG—Michelle Albanese's (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) three-pointer at the end of regulation sent the game into overtime where the sophomore then scored 10 of the Huskies 13 points to lead them to a 94-88 win over Mansfield University Wednesday night. The game was back and forth down the stretch with the Huskies grabbing a 76-75 lead with 1:48 left in regulation on two free throws by Albanese. Mansfield regained the lead at 78-76 on a three-pointer by Jessica Pfeiffer with 1:24 to play then went up three on a one of two free throws from Rachel Rieder with 23 seconds left. The Huskies' Dana Thompson (Pocono Lakes/Allentown, NJ HS) then came down and made a layup to cut the deficit to one, 79-78, with 15 seconds left. After the Mounties' Allyson Buss was fouled, she hit both free throws to give the visitors an 81-78 lead with just 13 seconds left. Albanese then dribbled down and came off a screen to drain the three-pointer and send the game into overtime. In the extra session, Albanese was on fire scoring the team's first six points, including a three-pointer just 30 seconds into overtime to give the Huskies the lead. After Mansfield tied the score on a couple of free throws, Albanese converted a traditional three-point play with a basket and a free throw with 3:03 left in the extra period to give Bloomsburg the lead for good at 87-84. Albanese added four free throws in the final minute to ice the game for the team. In the first half of the game the Huskies stayed in the game behind the shooting of Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) and the inside play of Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name). Rothermel hit for 10 first half points, while Yeasted scored seven, but had 10 rebounds. For the game, Albanese scored a career-high 28 points, while Dana Thompson added a career-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Yeasted in the middle scored 17 points and pulled 23 rebounds, a career-high and one shy of the school record, while Rothermel finished with 13 points. Lynelle Mosley led Mansfield with 21 points, while Pfeiffer added 19. Bloomsburg will visit Kutztown Saturday at 1 p.m. |
