Huskies Lose to Millersville In Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Despite 17 points from Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's), Millersville University was able to rally and beat Bloomsburg University, 75-62, in women's basketball action Wednesday night.

Bloomsburg led the entire first half behind the strong play of Meaghan Roe (Brownstown/Conestoga) who scored nine of the Huskies first 15 points in the game. The Huskies pushed their lead to 10 points, 28-18, with 1:49 to play in the half on a free throw by Roe. However, the Marauders used a 5-0 to end the half and get within five at 28-23.

In the second half, the Huskies led by six, 41-35, on an Albanese jumper with 13:15 to play. The Marauders tied the score for the first time at 45-45 on a layup by Gema Robles with 9:07 left. The Huskies, though, responded and led by three, 53-50, when Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Natvity BVM) connected on a three-pointer at the 6:07 mark. That would be the team's final lead of the night as the Marauders used a 10-0 over the next three minutes to go up 60-53 on Kristy Garner's layup.

A pair of free throws by Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) with 2:08 left in the game made it a three-point contest at 63-60. The Marauders, though, finished strong hitting six of nine free throws and getting some easy baskets in transition to pull away in win by 13 points.

Along with Albanese's 17 points, Roe finished with 15, while Yeasted 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies. Millersville was led by Robles with 22 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals, while Destinne Parker-Stewart chipped in with 14 and Morgan Banks 10.

The Huskies host East Stroudsburg Saturday night at 6 p.m.
