Bloomsburg Falls Short Against Millersville in PSAC QuarterfinalsMILLERSVILLE The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 72-66 loss to Millersville in quarterfinal round the 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs Tuesday night. The Huskies see their season end with a 15-11 record. Bloomsburg and Millersville were tied in the early going 5-5 when the Huskies went on a 12-4 run top open a 17-9 lead with 9:40 to play before halftime. Meaghan Roe (Brownstown/Conestoga) scored six points in the run with Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) adding four points. The Marauders, though, came storming back and used a 13-4 run of its own to grab its first lead of the game, 22-21, with 3:09 to play in the first half. After a pair of free throws by Yeasted put Bloomsburg back in front by one, 23-22, Millersville came back held a 27-25 with 1:47 left in the half. A layup by Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico), back in the lineup for Bloomsburg for the first time since Feb. 19th, tied the score at 27-27 at the 1:30 mark. Millersville, though, closed out the half with a 6-0 run to lead 33-27 at the break. In the second half, the Huskies knotted the game at 40-40 on a three-pointer by Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St, Mark's), but a couple of free throws by the Marauders' Gema Robles gave the home the lead at 42-40 with 15:11 to play. The free throws also keyed a 11-1 run pushed the Millersville margin to 10 points, 51-41 with 13:04 left in the game. Bloomsburg got the deficit back to four points on two occasions, the last being at 61-57 with 3:06 to play on a layup by Bryan. The Maruaders, though, hit seven of eight free throw attempts in the final 1:30 to seal the victory. The Huskies were led by Yeasted with 18 points and 14 rebounds, her sixth consecutive double-double. Bryan, who was playing with a broken foot, finished her outstanding career with 11 points and six rebounds, while Albanese also scored 11 and had eight assists. Albanese hit two three-pointers in the game for Bloomsburg, giving her 56 for the season, a new school record. Millersville, now 20-7, was led by Robles with 16 points and 11 assists, while Morgan Banks added 14 points. |
