Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Team Drops Season Opener
PHILADELPHIA —Lauren Tanel scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Holy Family College to 68-48 win over Bloomsburg University in the season-opener for both teams.
The game was close in the opening minutes of the game with neither team holding more than a five-point lead. Then, late in the first half the Tigers pulled away and led by seven points at the break, 37-30. The Huskies' Karen Yeasted kept Bloomsburg in the game by scoring 17 first half points.
In the second half, the home team jumped out quickly and pushed its lead to 14 points. Bloomsburg then rallied and trimmed the margin to seven points, 50-43. However, that would be as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way.
Poor shooting doomed the Huskies in the final 20 minutes as they shot just 6-34 from the floor in the final 20 minutes. Yeasted, who started strong, was held scoreless in the second half, but did finish with 11 rebounds. The Huskies also committed 20 turnovers in the game.
Tanel tallied 19 points, hitting nine of 10 from the foul line for Holy Family while Keisha Brown added 15 points. Alicia McGinty and Kristina Weise added 10 points each for the Tigers.
Bloomsburg was led by Yeasted with 17 points with Jen Bryan adding 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Bloomsburg, 0-1, is idle till Dec. 6th when it faces Indiana (PA) at the Nelson Field House starting at 6 p.m.
