Bloomsburg Downs Slippery Rock in Women's BasketballBLOOMSBURG—Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico) scored a game-high 17 points and had 15 rebounds to lead Bloomsburg University to a 68-55 win over Slippery Rock University Saturday afternoon. The Huskies (7-4) held the early advantage in the game jumping out to a 28-13 lead in the first half. Freshman Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) keyed the Huskies by scoring 10 first half points. The Rock (4-8) did get the lead down to eight points right before halftime, but a three-pointer by Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) gave Bloomsburg an 11-point halftime margin. Bryan was held the just four first half points. In the second half, the Huskies enjoyed their biggest lead of the game, 43-26, after Bryan hit two free throws. The margin stayed between 12 and 15 points for much of the second half before a mini run by the Rock brought them to within nine points, 55-46, after two free throws by Erin Frankovich. The Huskies, though, hit 9 of 12 free throws in the final 1:30 of the game to seal the win. Two of the free throws missed by the Huskies were two by Bryan, which would have pushed over the 1,000-career point plateau. The senior will not go into Sunday's game with California (PA) with 999 career points. She is bidding to become the 14th player in school history to achieve the milestone. Along with Bryan's double-double, Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) had 16 points, including 8-8 from the foul line, while Kauczka finished with a career-high 15 points. Frankovich led the Rock with 15 points, while Missy McKavish and Stacey Green each added 11. Bloomsburg will be back in action Sunday hosting California at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Field House. |
