Roe Leads Bloomsburg Over Edinboro in Women's Basketball

EDINBORO —Meaghan Roe (Brownsown/Conestoga) scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Bloomsburg University downed Edinboro, 783-68, in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies led from start to finish in the game opening a 17-8 lead after the first nine minutes of play. Leading the way in the early going was Jen Bryan (Denver/Cocalico) and Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) who each scored four points in helping Bloomsburg grab the 11-point lead.

Leading by nine at halftime, 35-26, the Huskies pushed the lead to 11 on two Stef Kline (Siking Spring/Wilson) free throws, which gave Bloomsburg a 48-37 lead with 15:40 to play.

The Fighting Scots rallied and trimmed the deficit to five points on several occasions in the second half before a couple of free throws from Karen Yeasted (West Lawn/Holy Name) and Roe pushed the lead back to 10 points, 60-50, with 6:41 to play.

Edinboro rallied one more time and got to within four points, 64-60, at the 3:46 mark. However, the Huskies were seven for seven from the foul line in the final three minutes to hang on for the win.

The victory was the third in a row for the Huskies, now 3-1. Along with Roe's 18 points, Jen Bryan added 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) added 14 points and Rothermel 13 for the Huskies with Yeasted getting nine points and 10 rebounds.

Edinboro, 6-3, was led by Lachelle Crawl's 25 points, while Krystal Henson and Jodi Calderone each scored 12.

Bloomsburg will visit Clarion on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
