Bloomsburg Rallies to Beat West Chester in Women's Basketball Action

BLOOMSBURG— Michelle Albanese's jumper with 46 seconds broke a 60-60 tie and lifted the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 65-60 win over West Chester University Saturday evening.

The Huskies led 60-58 on two free throws from Jen Bryan with 2:29 to play. West Chester tied the game for the sixth time in the second half on a layup by Keira Manlove with 2:14 to play. After missed shots by both teams, Albanese got the ball and drained a jumper to make 62-60 with 46 seconds to play. West Chester came down and missed a jumper with 20 seconds to play with Yeasted getting the rebound and passing to Albanese. The sophomore guard then hit two free throws with 10 seconds left to make it 64-60. After another West Chester miss, Albanese hit one of two free throws with a second remaining.

Bloomsburg led in the early going 11-7 on the strength of seven points from Meggi Rothermel. The Golden Rams rallied and took their first lead of the game at 17-15 on a three-pointer from Elise McCloy with seven minutes to play in the opening half. West Chester pushed the lead to five points, 26-21, with 1:47 to play, but the Huskies rallied to go ahead at break. It was Albanese's three-pointer with 17 seconds to play in the half which sent the Huskies to the locker room with a 29-26 lead.

The Huskies pushed the lead to six early in the second half after Meaghan Roe hit a free throw and Jen Bryan a layup to make it 34-28 with 17:12 to play. The Golden Rams came back and took a 37-35 lead with 14:35 to play on an Amy Buda three-pointer. They would increase the lead to six, 52-46, on two free throws by Greta Neff.

Bloomsburg's Jamie Kauczka and Jen Bryan each hit two free throws to make it a 52-50 game with 5:23 to play. After free throws from West Chester's Keisha Mack and Tracy Kling made it 56-52 with 3:57 to play, the Huskies got four more free throws from Jen Bryan and jumper from Karen Yeasted over the next minute in a 6-1 run setting up the final heroics for Bloomsburg.

Bryan led the Huskies, 8-6, 1-1 PSAC East, with 24 points, while Albanese scored 11 and Yeasted 10. Amy Buda led the Golden Rams, 9-5, 1-1 PSAC East with 19 points.

The Huskies visit Mansfield Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
