Bloomsburg Women Tune For Playoffs with Over Cheyney

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team tuned for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs next week with an 86-62 rout of Cheyney Wednesday night.

The Huskies will be the third seed for the playoffs from the Eastern Division and will face number two seed Millersville Tuesday night at Millersville at a time to be determined.

Bloomsburg had no trouble in this game leading from start to finish. Senior Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson), playing in her final home game was red-hot in the opening minutes scoring five points, getting three rebounds and two assists in the first four minutes of the game as the Huskies jumped out to an 11-4 lead.

The Huskies stretched the lead to 16 points, 29-13, with 7:37 to play in the first half, on the strength of a 9-4 run. Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) sparked the Huskies run by scoring seven of the nine points.

Cheyney started the second half with a basket to get within nine points, 43-34, before the Huskies blew the game open with 16-4 run to lead by 21 points, 59-38. Deveaux scored six of the Huskies 16 in the stretch which Brittany McLean (Emporium/Cameron County) finished with a three-pointer.

Twice in the second half the Huskies pushed the lead to as many as 31 points before settling for the 24 point win.

Deveaux, a freshman, led the Huskies with 19 points, while Kline turned in one of her finest all-around games with 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Jen Berta (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) chipped in with 12 points for Bloomsburg, 14-13, 7-5 in the PSAC East, while Tiffany Metzler (Mechanicsburg/Holy Name) added 11.

Cheyney, 5-21, 0-11 in the PSAC East, got 13 points each from Ranisha Childress and Fanta Sissoko.
