Deveaux' Three-Pointer Lifts Bloomsburg to Overtime Win over Clarion

Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) hit a three-pointer with two seconds left in overtime to lead Bloomsburg University to an 82-81 victory over Clarion Sunday afternoon in women's college basketball action.
In regulation, with the Clarion leading 70-69, Deveaux drained a three-pointer to give the Huskies a 72-70 lead with 39 seconds left. However, Clarion was able to force overtime when Heather Cigich scored on a lay-up with seven seconds left forcing the extra period.
The overtime began with a Bloomsburg basket by Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West), giving the Huskies a 74-72 lead over the Eagles with 4:27 left in overtime.
On their next possession, the Eagles then tied the game again when Shay Godwin grabbed one of her six offensive rebounds en route to a basket for Clarion.
At the 3:07 mark, Michelle Albanese (Wilmington DE/St. Mark's) gave the Huskies a one-point advantage when she hit one of two free throws. Trailing 75-74, the Eagles gained their first lead of the overtime period on a made pair of free throws from Cigich.
Following a Kauczka lay up and a pair of made free throws from Deveaux, the Huskies had a 79-76 lead over the Eagles with 2:22 remaining.
Godwin turned another offensive rebound into a basket for the Eagles, cutting the lead to one. On their next possession, Bloomsburg committed a turnover, which led to another Clarion basket, giving the Eagles an 80-79 lead over the Huskies with 12 seconds remaining.
After the Huskies turned the ball over, Clarion called a timeout. On the in-bounds, the Huskies were forced to send the Eagles to the free throw line. Tiffany Peacock made the first of two, increasing the Clarion lead to two points. Following a miss on the second free throw, Amelia Harris grabbed the offensive rebound, but turned the ball over, giving Bloomsburg one last possession with 11 seconds remaining.
Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) took the ball down the floor, passing to Deveaux who nailed the three-pointer for the Bloomsburg win.
In the first half, the Huskies trailed by as many as seven points, 14-7, before a 9-2 run tied the game at 16-all with 11:02 to play in the half. Deveaux scored seven of the Huskies nine points in the run, including a three-pointer.
Then with the score tied at 33, Kline scored five straight points to end the half, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Bloomsburg a 38-33 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Huskies and Golden Eagles traded leads with the Huskies holding a six point lead at one time and Clarion coming back to lead by five before the heroics from Deveaux.
For the Huskies, Albanese tied a career-high with 30 points, and also had six assists in the game. Deveaux chipped in 18 points, while Kauczka added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kline also added seven rebounds and five assists for the Huskies, while Nikki Duncan (Lancaster/Hempfield) chipped in four rebounds and two steals, coming off the bench for Bloomsburg.
For Clarion, Cigich and Harris combined for 53 points. Cigich had a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds, while Harris had 22 points, including four three-pointers. Tiffany Peacock added 11 points and Lindsay Kostorick led the team in assists with six.
With the win, the Huskies improve their record to 6-7, and the Eagles are now 8-6. The Huskies host Millersville on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
