Bloomsburg Beats Mansfield in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) scored a team-high 21 points to lead Bloomsburg University to a 75-65 come-from-behind win over Mansfield University Wednesday night.
With the win Bloomsburg improves to 8-9, 1-2 in the PSAC, while the Mounties fall to 9-11, 1-2 in the PSAC.
The teams traded leads in the early going before the Mounties opened a 19-14 lead on a pair of free throws from Alison Tagliaferri with 10:32 left in the half.
Mansfield extended its margin to 31-20 with 4:59 to play on a jumper by Jessica Pfeiffer. The Huskies, though, battled back and outscored the Mounties 13-4 down the stretch to pull within four at the break. The comeback was highlighted by a basket from Deveaux with two seconds left in the half.
Mansfield opened the second half by scoring the first five points of the half to lead 40-33 with 19 minutes to play in the game. However, a 12-5 run by the Huskies tied at 45-all. It was the first time the game was tied since early in the first half. In the rally Deveaux scored six points on two three-pointers.
After Mansfield regained the lead on a bucket, the Huskies' Kelly Burkhart drained a three-pointer to give Bloomsburg the lead for good at 50-47. The Huskies then stretched the lead to seven, 58-51, on a layup by Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West). After Mansfield cut the deficit back to three, 60-57, Bloomsburg went on a 10-2 run got its largest lead of the night, 70-59. Jen Berta (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) started the rally with a pair of free throws with Tiffany Metzler (Mechanicsburg/Holy Name) adding a layup for a 64-57 lead. After a pair of free throws by Mansfield, Deveaux hit a three-pointer and two free throws sandwiched around a free throw from Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson).
Along with Deveaux's 21 points, Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) had her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kauczka added 11 points, while Berta had a career-high 10.
Mansfield was led by Tagliaferri with 21 points, while Jessica Pfeiffer added 14, Steph Reiser 13 and Rachel Reider 11.
The Huskies host East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 6 p.m.
