Bloomsburg Downs Millersville in Women's Basketball

MILLERSVILLE —Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) and Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 17 points each to lead Bloomsburg University to a 66-59 win over Millersville University in women's basketball action Wednesday night.
After Bloomsburg took an early 4-0 lead on two baskets by Devaux, the Marauders took the a 19-11 lead with 10:44 to play on the strength of eight points from Joni Mertz.
Then later, with the Huskies trailing 25-18, Bloomsburg went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 25-25 heading into halftime. Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) hit a jumper and added two free throws while Deveaux drained a three-pointer with 17 seconds left in the half to knot the game.
In the second half, thee teams traded leads in the opening three minutes before Kauczka and Tiffany Metzler (Mechanicsburg/Holy Name) scored inside and Albanese hit a three-pointer to give Bloomsburg its largest lead to that point at 40-33 with 14:44 to play.
Bloomsburg pushed the lead to 13 points, 58-45, with 6:05 to play when Albanese hit back to back three-pointers in a one-minute span. Millersville then caught fire and went on a 12-2 run to get within three points, 60-57, with 3:02 left in the game.
Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) then hit a three-pointer and Deveaux added a free throw to give Bloomsburg a 64-57 lead with 1:07 to play. The Huskies then sealed the victory with a pair free throws from Devaux with 21 seconds to play.
Along with Albanese and Deveaux getting 17 each, Jen berta added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Jamie Kauczka added eight points and nine rebounds.
Mertz finished with a game-high 19 points for Millersville, while Kristy Garner added 13.
Bloomsburg goes to 11-12, 4-4 in the PSAC East, with the win, while Millersville falls to 14-8, 6-2 in the PSAC East.
The Huskies visit East Stroudsburg Saturday at 1 p.m.
