Bloomsburg's Women's Basketball Falls in PSAC Quarterfinal's

MILLERSVILLE —The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with an 83-70 loss to Millersville in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs on Tuesday night.

The Huskies end their season with a mark of 14-14, while the Marauders advance to the PSAC Final Four with a mark of 19-8. Millersville will face California (PA) in the semifinals Friday evening.

Millersville held the early advantage in the game leading 10-3 after a layup from Destiny Parker-Stewart. Bloomsburg battled back and took a 16-15 lead on a three-pointer from Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) with 9:02 left in the first half. The Marauders came back and took a 25-19 lead on a layup by Joni Mertz with 5:35 to play. But back-to-back three's by Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) and Kline keyed an 11-4 run and gave the Huskies a 30-29 lead with 1:13 to play in the half. Millersville, though, ended the half with a 6-1 run to lead by four, 35-31, at the break.

Millersville stretched its lead to 49-39 with 14 minutes to go in the game on a layup by Kristi Garner. The Huskies got back into the game when they got three-pointers from Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens), Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity) and Albanese on three consecutive trips down the floor to close the gap to 58-52 with 9:03 to play.

The Marauders, though, rattled off 10 unanswered points to take their biggest lead of the night, 68-52, with 5:37 to go. The Huskies got back to within nine points with less than a minute to play, but the Marauders hit 6-8 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.

Albanese scored a team-high 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and had five assists to lead Bloomsburg. Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) added 16 points, while Kline finished with 11.

Joni Mertz led the Marauders with 21 points, while Danielle Marshall added 16 and Kristy Garner 15 points.
