Bloomsburg Falls in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Samantha Conner scored a team-high 23 points to lead Pitt-Johnstown past Bloomsburg, 91-82, Saturday night in women's college basketball action.

The Huskies started quickly in the game opening a 14-8 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Freshman Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) drained two three-pointers in the first few minutes of the game. The Lady Cats came back and took a 20-16 lead at the 12:45 with the help of a 12-2 run with Crystal Barr getting five points in the rally.

Later in the half with Bloomsburg clinging to a one point lead, 28-27, the Huskies went on a 12-2 run of their own to lead by 11 points, 40-29, with 4:46 to play.

The Lady Cats, though, came roaring back and went on a 16-2 run capped off by Kristin Creswell's jumper with five seconds to play which gave the visitors a one-point lead heading into the locker room, 45-44.

Bloomsburg opened the second half with seven straight points, including five by Deveaux to regain the lead at 51-45. The Lady Cats ended the scoring run with two free throws from Conner, then went on a 20-7 run to grab a seven point lead, 65-58. Conner totaled seven points in the rally, while Barr came up with five.

Later, a basket by Conner and a free throw from Jaclyn Scirf extended the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 14, 74-60. Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) then drained a three-pointer, followed by a pair of free throws from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) to cut the deficit to nine, 74-65. The Huskies continued to chip away at the lead and got to within, 79-75 with 4:31 to play on a three-pointer by Kelly Burkart (Sayre/Athens).

Barr then hit a jumper and Melissa Patterson hit two free throws with 2:51 to play to push the Lady Cats lead back to eight, 83-75. The Huskies did get back within four, 83-79, with 1:28 to play on a layup by Deveaux, but the Lady Cats hit four of six from the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.

Along with Conner's 23 points, Barr added 20 for Pitt-Johnstown, 14-3 on the year. In addition, Creswell added 16 points and Patterson 12.

Bloomsburg got a career-high 26 points from Deveaux, while Jamie Kauczka scored 16 and had 11 rebounds. Michelle Albanese added 14 for the Huskies, now 9-11.

Bloomsburg is at Cheyney Wednesday night.
