Bloomsburg Falls to Bowie State in Women's Basketball

BOWIE, MD —Allyson Hardy scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Bowie State Bulldogs to a 95-83 win over Bloomsburg University Thursday night in women's basketball action.
The Bulldogs led by seven points, 51-44, after a wild first half saw five ties and 11 lead changes in the opening 20 minutes. Bloomsburg led by four on several occasions in the first half, the last with 3:07 to play in the first half on a layup by Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) which gave the Huskies a 40-36 lead. However, the home team rallied and went on a 15-4 run to close out the half and open the seven-point gap.
In the second half a pair of free throws by Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) cut the Bloomsburg deficit to four points, 53-49 with 18:15 to play. Albanese later brought Bloomsburg to within three at 58-55 after hitting a layup with 15:13 to play. The Bulldogs though answered with a 10-0 run to push the lead to 13, 68-55.with Hardy and LaToya Rawls scoring four each.
Albanese tried to rally the Huskies once more and scored five straight points, while Tiffany Metzler (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) added a basket to get Bloomsburg back within six, 68-62, with 10:19 to play.
That would be as close as the Huskies would get the rest of the way. Bowie State maintained a double-digit lead for much of the final four minutes of the game and hit six of eight from the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal the victory.
Hardy scored 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Bowie State, while Rachill Robinson added 24 points with Rawls getting 22.
Bloomsburg was led in scoring by Albanese who scored 24 points, while freshman Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) added 17 points. Jen Berta (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) chipped in with 10 points.
Bloomsburg, 3-2, will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. hosting Lock Haven.
