Bloomsburg Falls to Second-Ranked California in Women's Basketball

CALIFORNIA, PA —Second ranked California (PA) rolled to a 98-52 win over Bloomsburg University in women's basketball action Thursday night.

The win improves the Vulcans to 9-0 overall and extends their home court-winning streak to 42 games, while the Huskies fall to 4-4. Cal is ranked second in the latest USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II poll.

Cal jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game behind six points from Samaera Philyaw. Bloomsburg ended the run with a three-pointer from Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) with 15:15 to play in the half. The Vulcans, though, extended their lead to 22 points, 27-5, with 10:23 left in the first half before pushing their margin to 51-14 at the break.

In the second half the Huskies scored the first two baskets of the half to cut the deficit to 33 points at 51-18, but that would be the closest Bloomsburg would get the rest of the way.

The Vulcans grabbed their biggest lead of the game at 51 points, 88-37, with 6:24 to play before settling for the 46 point margin of victory.

Cal was led in scoring by Becky Siembak with 22 points, while Philyaw added 21 points. Sara McKinney also hit double figures with 12 points, while Erin Dillon added 10. Overall, all 12 players on the Cal roster scored at least two points.

Bloomsburg was led in scoring by Courtney Camacho (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg North) with 12 points, while Albanese added 11 points.

The Huskies host Caldwell College Saturday at 2 p.m. in their next game.
