Bloomsburg Women Top Caldwell in Basketball

BLOOMSBURG--Michele Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) finished with career high 30 points, 23 in the first half, to lead Bloomsburg to a thrilling 75-71 victory over Caldwell College. En route to her career high, Albanese also broke the school record for three point field goals in a game by drilling eight. Albanese broke the previous school record of seven by Christie Berry in 1998. She finished eight of 10 from beyond the arc and shot 71% from the field.

Albanese also iced the victory for the Huskies by hitting two foul shots with :08 left in the contest.

Caldwell trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half. With 17:39 remaining in the game, the Cougars went on a 15-0 run to cut the Bloomsburg lead to seven, 54-47, with 12:25 remaining. Caldwell later closed to deficit to 71-70 with under a minute to play but Albanese hit a lay-up to push the Bloomsburg advantage to 73-70. After Caldwell converted one foul shot attempt, Albanese drained her foul shots to give the Huskies the victory.

Bloomsburg scored 26 points in the paint compared to only 10 for Caldwell. On the day, the Huskies shot 44% from the field and 43% from behind the arc. The Huskies also forced 22 Caldwell turnovers.

Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) continued her consistent play by scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds to help the Huskies win their second consecutive home game. Freshman Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) chipped in with 10 points, hitting double digits for the eighth time in nine games. Courtney Comacho (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg North) hit six of seven foul shots down the stretch for Bloomsburg, finishing with eight points.

The Huskies return to action on January 3rd at Indiana (PA). Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
