Bloomsburg Falls to IUP in Women's Basketball

INDIANA —Jacqui Martin scored a career-high 33 points to lead Indiana (PA) women's basketball team to a 75-64 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday afternoon. It was the Huskies first game since Dec. 20th.

The Huskies opened the game with an early 6-3 lead on three baskets by Jamie Kauczka. The Indians, though, can roaring back and grabbed a 10-point lead, 21-11, on a three-pointer by Katie Glaws with 11:36 left in the first half. Bloomsburg cut the deficit back to four points when Dominique Deveaux hit back-to-back baskets and Michelle Albanese scored on a layup.

After IUP pushed the lead back to double digits at 34-20, the Huskies rallied before halftime and trailed by just six at the break, 41-35.

Bloomsburg got to within three points twice in the opening minutes of the second half at 41-38 and 43-40. The Indians, though, went on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 54-42 with Martin scoring seven points in rally for IUP.

The Huskies came back once more with Kelly Burkhart and Albanese hitting three pointers and Tiffany Metzler a lay-up to bring Bloomsburg back to within four at 54-50. But a jumper and a layup by Martin sandwiched around a three-pointer from Glaws pushed the IUP back to 11, 61-50, with 7:30 left in the game. The Huskies could get no closer than nine the rest of the game.

Martin shot 13-15 from the floor for IUP to lead the way with 33 points. Molly Miller added 13 points and Glaws 10 for the Indians, now 8-2.

Bloomsburg got 22 points from Kauczka, while Deveaux added 15 and Albanese 12 for the Huskies, who fall to 5-5 with the loss.

The Huskies are back in action Sunday at Shippensburg starting at 1 p.m.
