Bloomsburg Loses to Shippensburg in Women's Basketball

SHIPPENSBURG —Shippensburg University placed five players in double figures as it downed Bloomsburg, 79-64, in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies held several two-point leads in the first five minutes of the game before the Lady Raiders used a 9-1 run to grab a 16-10 lead with 10:25 left in the opening 20 minutes. Bloomsburg rallied and cut the deficit back to one, 18-17, on the strength of four points from Nikki Duncan and three from Jamie Kauczka. Shippensburg, though, went into halftime with a three-point lead, 34-31.
In the second half, with Shippensburg leading, 42-39, the Lady Raiders went on a 13-4 run, led by six points from Jen Scaffidi, to lead 55-43 with 12:12 to play. Bloomsburg tried to comeback behind the shooting of Michelle Albanese and Stef Kline, but the Lady Raiders were able to maintain a double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the game. Only Kline's jumper with 2:22 left in the game put the deficit below 10 points at 73-64. Shippensburg then closed out the game with a 6-0 run to win by 15.
Katie Bray led Shippensburg, 9-3, with 21 points, while Emily Swingler added 14. In addition, Katie Lazor and Scaffidi scored 11 points each with Shanna Oaddams chipping in with 10 points.
Bloomsburg, 5-6, was led in scoring by Albanese with 16 points, while Kline added 14 with freshman Dominique Deveaux getting 11.
The Huskies are idle till Saturday when they host Edinboro at 1 p.m.
