Bloomsburg Falls to West Chester in Women's Basketball

WEST CHESTER —West Chester placed three players in double figures in beating Bloomsburg, 72-59, in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.

After jumping out to a 7-0 lead, the Huskies saw West Chester go on a 16-2 run to take a 16-9 lead with 12:47 to play in the first half. Later, with Bloomsburg trailing 29-20, Jen Berta (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) scored and Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) hit two free throws to make it a 29-22 game with 4:38 to play. After the Golden Rams stretched the lead back to 11 at 36-25, Bloomsburg closed out the half with a 7-0 run. Berta scored off a fast break to get the rally started before Albanese drained three-pointer and Brittany McClean (Emporium/Cameron County) hit a layup to leave the Huskies with a four-point deficit, 36-32.

West Chester started the second half with a 12-2 run to lead 48-34 with 15:13 to play. After a timeout, Dominique Deveaux (Coatesville/Coatesville) hit a jumper to get the Huskies back to within 12 points at 48-36. West Chester later extended their lead to 59-40 on back-to-back jumpers by Elise McCloy with 9:32 to play.

Bloomsburg did manage to get the lead back under 10, 68-59, with less than a minute to play after Kelly Burkhart scored and hit a free throw with 42 seconds left. The Golden Rams though scored the final four points of the game to win by 13.

Shauna Palmer scored a career-high 25 to lead West Chester, while McCloy finished with 22 and Keisha Mack 10.

Bloomsburg got a double-double from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Albanese added 13.
