Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight

KUTZTOWN —Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, a 68-50 victory over Kutztown University Wednesday night.
Bloomsburg improved to 8-5, 2-0 in the PSAC East, while Kutztown falls to 8-8, 1-1 in the PSAC East.
The Golden Bears held several early two points in the first five minutes of the game before the Huskies took the lead for good at 9-8 on a jumper by Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) with 12:15 to play in the opening half.
Later, with the Huskies leading by three, 15-12, Bloomsburg went on a 9-0 run to grab a double digit lead at 24-12. Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) scored five of the Huskies nine points in the rally.
After Kutztown closed back to within seven points, Bloomsburg ended the half with a 15-8 run to lead by 14 points at the break. In the run, Rothermel hit a pair of free throws, a layup and a three-pointer for the Huskies.
In the second half, the Golden Bears got back to within 10 points, 43-33, on a jumper by Jess Brady. But, the Huskies rallied on a pair of jumpers from Jen Berta (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) and a three-pointer from Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/Athens) to take its biggest lead of the game up to that time at 17 points, 54-37, with 9:34 to play. The Huskies would later stretch the lead to as many as 22 points before getting 18-point victory.
Along with 18 points from Rothermel, Albanese added 14 points with Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) getting 10.
Kutztown was led by 18 points from Rachel Weidensaul and 10 from Jess Brady.
The Huskies will host Cheyney on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.
