Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG—Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Bloomsburg University to a 73-65 win in women's basketball action Sunday afternoon. The Huskies improved to 7-5 with the win.

The teams traded leads in the first seven times and were tied on six other occasions. The Lady Eagles held a five point lead, 19-14, with 12:08 to go in the first half on a pair of free throws from Allison Hall before the Huskies came back and took the lead for good at the 7:14 mark of the opening period on two free throws from Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West).

Bloomsburg went on to increase its lead to an as many as eight points, 42-34, with 2:51 left in the half and went into the locker room with a six point edge.

Lock Haven got back to within two points, 43-41, on a layup from Shemka Lee with 17:31 to play. But, the Huskies came back and used a 12-2 run to open a 12-point lead, 55-43 with 12:31 left in the game. Kauczka and Michelle Albanese (Wilmingston, DE/St. Mark's) each had four points in the run.

The Huskies later got their biggest lead of the afternoon, 13 points, on a layup by Dana Thompson (Pocono Lake/Allentown, NJ) with 8:14 left in the game. Lock Haven did rally and get within six points with 35 seconds to play, but Albanese sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining.

Rothermel scored 21 points, including four three-pointers, while Kauczka added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Huskies. Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown) chipped in with 12 points, while Albanese finished with 11.

Lock Haven, 2-13, got 17 points from Candace Sillers and 13 points from Elizabeth Gabrielle.

Bloomsburg will visit Kutztown on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in its next game.
