BLOOMSBURG—Dana Thompson (Pocono Lake/Allentown, NJ) scored 16 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds but it wasn't enough as Bloomsburg University fell to Millersville University on Saturday, 65-58.
Bloomsburg took an early 6-2 lead on a Thompson jumper 1:40 into the game. Millersville responded with a 13-5 run to take a 15-11 lead midway through the first half. The Huskies fought back as Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St Mark's), Gabe Miskinis (Lewistown/Lewistown), and Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) combined to nail four three-pointers, sandwiched between a Millersville jumper by Kristy Garner, to take a 23-17 lead. Millersville cut the Bloomsburg lead to 25-24 later in the first half but the Huskies closed out the half strong, as Dana Thompson scored six of the team's final nine points leading Bloomsburg to a 34-31 advantage at the half.
Midway through the second half, with Bloomsburg holding to a slim 43-41 advantage, Branden Lippy canned a three-pointer to put the Marauders up 44-43. Millersville never looked back, scoring nine of the next 11 points en route to a 53-45 advantage. The Huskies fought back and cut the deficit to three on an Albanese free throw making the score 58-55 with 1:23 to play. However, Millersville connected on seven of 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the 65-58 victory.
In addition to Thompson's 16 points, both Miskinis and Rothermel added 11 points for the Huskies. Michele Albanese added eight points and four assists while Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) scored six points to go along with her seven rebounds.
With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 9-8, 3-3 PSAC East while Millersville improves to 12-8, 5-1 PSAC East.
The Huskies return to action on Monday as they travel to East Stroudsburg to take on the Warriors at 6:00 p.m.
