Bloomsburg Loses to Shippensburg in Women's Basketball

SHIPPENSBURG --The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Shippensburg on Sunday by a 77-62 score.
The Huskies led just once, on the game's first basket by Tiff Metzler (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), and were tied two other times in the game's first three minutes before the Lady Raiders went ahead for good on a layup by Kim Strickland. After falling behind by four points, 12-8, Bloomsburg got back to within one on a three-pointer by Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) with 15:03 to play in the opening half.
Shippensburg then began to build on its lead eventually opening a 15-point margin, 36-21, after a pair of free throws by Jennifer Scaffidi with 1:36 to go in the half. Bloomsburg did pull back to within 10 points with a minute to go in the period on a three-pointer from Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's), but a three from Shippensburg's Samantha Rasmus pushed the halftime defict back to 13.
Bloomsburg did get within 11 points at 39-28 in the opening minutes of the second half on a jumper by Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West). However, the Lady Raiders pushed the lead back to 16 points at the 16:42 mark on a three-pointer from Megan Fogle and were never threatened after.
Albanese and Kauczka led the Huskies, 4-5, with 12 points each, while Rothermel added 10 points.
Shippensburg, 8-4, got 21 points from Scaffidi, 18 from Katie Lazor and 15 from Fogle in the victory.
The Huskies host East Stroudsburg Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in their next game.
