Game stats

BLOOMSBURG—Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) scored a game-high 22 points to lead Bloomsburg University to a 63-55 win over Slippery Rock in women's basketball action Tuesday night.

The game was the first for the Huskies under interim coach Tammy Millsaps who is taking over while head coach Monica Starrett is on administrative leave.

Rothermel was the only bright spot for either team in a sluggish first half of play. The senior scored 17 of the Huskies 23 first half points on five of six shooting from the floor, including four of four from three-point range.

Neither team scored for the first three and a half minutes of the game before the Rock's Erin Frankovich scored with 17:17 to go in the half. The Huskies finally got on the board at the 16:12 mark when Rothermel banged home a long three-pointer.

The Huskies eventually opened a nine-point lead, 23-14, on another three from Rothermel with 2:47 to play in the half. However, the Rock scored final seven points of the period to trail by just two at halftime, 23-21.

In the second half, Slippery Rock pulled to within two points, 25-23, early in the period before the Huskies used a 6-0 run to lead by eight, 31-23.

Bloomsburg would later push the lead to double digits, 55-44, on a three-pointer from Michelle Albanese (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) with 5:49 to play. The Rock, though, came back once more and pulled to within four points, 59-55, with 1:01 left on a three-pointer from Kristen Bonner. But, the Huskies scored the final four points of the game to win by eight.

Along with Rothermel's 22 points, Albanese and Jamie Kauczka (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) each scored 12 points while Tiff Metzler added 10.

Slippery Rock, 4-7, got 10 points from Frankovich.

Bloomsburg, now 4-3, will be at California (PA) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
