Bloomsburg Falls to West Chester in Women's Basketball

WEST CHESTER —The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to West Chester 85-64 on Wednesday night in PSAC Eastern Division action.

The loss dropped the Huskies to 12-11 overall, 6-5 in the PSAC East, while West Chester improved to 18-9, 10-2 in the PSAC East.

The Golden Rams took the early lead in the game opening a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes of play. The West Chester lead later went to 10 points, 21-11, on two free throws from Alexis Norman at the 10:30 mark. Bloomsburg then rallied and went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes. Meggi Rothermel (Minersville/Nativity BVM) hit for eight points in the run, while Dana Thompson (Pocono Lake/Allentown, NJ) scored five to give the Huskies a 24-21 lead with 6:48 left in the half.

West Chester then used a 12-0 run of its own to grab a 33-24 lead with 2:04 to play in the period.

With the Huskies trailing by six at halftime, Bloomsburg saw the Golden Rams score the first six points of the half to take its biggest of the game to that point at 43-31. Later Michelle Albanese's (Wilmington, DE/St. Mark's) three-pointer with 14:03 left in the game, brought the Huskies back to within eight points, 49-41, but that would be as close as Bloomsburg would get the rest of the game.

West Chester put the game away with a 19-5 run over a seven minute stretch to stretch its advantage to 68-46 and end any hopes of a comeback.

Rothermel topped the Huskies with 16 points, while Albanese and Dana Thompson scored 14 points a piece with Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/Wyoming Valley West) adding 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

West Chester was led by 20 points from Elise McCoy, while Dominique Lewis and Keisha Mack each scored 16 points.

The Huskies will close out its regular season with a home game on Saturday against Millersville at 5:30 p.m.
