Huskies Shut Down Concordia
BRONXVILLE, NY-Freshman guard Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) scored a season-high 15 points and added eight rebounds and eight assists as Bloomsburg University defeated Concordia College 75-50 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.
The Huskies (4-1) started the game on a 28-4 run over the game's first 9:18. Three-pointers by Flanagan, freshman guard Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) and sophomore guard Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) helped Bloomsburg open up the huge first half lead. The Clippers fought back, outscoring Bloomsburg 16-11 during the remaining 10:42 to bring the Huskies lead to 39-20 at the half.
Bloomsburg would again go on the attack in the second half with three-pointers from Wieller and freshman guard Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) to stretch the lead to 55-24 with 14:29 remaining. Concordia would try to chip away at the Huskies lead, but Bloomsburg continuously came up huge on the defensive end, converting turnovers by the Clippers into points, finishing with a 25-point win.
Flanagan shot 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, adding two steals and a block for the Huskies. Wieller connected on 4-of-7 three-point attempts, scoring 14 points and freshman forward Christine Sereta (Drums/Hazleton Area) added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting with three blocks and two steals.
