BLOOMSBURG-Bloomsburg University women's basketball player Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Preseason All-Conference Team for the 2009-10 season.
Gallagher, a sophomore, had a remarkable first season of college basketball earning the PSAC Eastern Division Rookie of the Year award. She led the Huskies in scoring with 15.4 points per game, was second in rebounding with 5.0 per game. She also led the Huskies in three-point field goals with 60 (second best single-season mark in school history); in assists with 3.5 per game and in steals with 2.2 per game. Gallagher also topped Bloomsburg and the PSAC in minutes per game with a mark of 37 per game. She was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Week eight times during the course of the year.
During the year Gallagher also had six games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 26 at West Chester. She also had her first career double-double at Kutztown when she scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and scored in double figures in 23 of 27 games during the season.
She was also named the school's Female Underclassmen of the Year, one of just two freshmen to ever win the Underclassmen of the Year award and the first since 1986, and was selected to the Women's Basketball Division II Bulletin's All-Freshman team for the 2008-09 season.
As a team the Huskies, under second year head coach Bill Cleary, were picked to finish sixth in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg returns just three players from last year's 11-16 team. The Huskies will be a young team with 11 new players on the roster as they look to battle for one of the four playoff spots in the Eastern Division.
Bloomsburg will open its 2009-10 season on Monday, November 16 at Chestnut Hill College.
