Women's Tennis Shuts Out West Liberty in First Match

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team defeated West Liberty College 9-0 in its first match of the season.

At first doubles, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland) and Emily Murphy (Montgomery/Methacton) defeated the Toppers, 8-4, while Lindsey Wyckoff (North Canton, OH/Hoover) and Torie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) won their match at second doubles, 8-6. Lauren Colfer (Philadelphia/St. Basil Academy) and Tracy Nissenbaum defeated West Liberty 8-4 at third doubles.

In singles, Murphy cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at third, while Hokkanen got a 6-2, 7-5 victory at first singles. Colfer won 6-3, 6-2 at five singles, while Cunningham defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at six. At fourth singles, Brande Hansteen (Wyncote/Cheltenham) won the first set, 7-6 (4), after trailing 5-2 early. In the second, she rolled to a 6-2 win. Wyckoff, at second, won in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-5, 0-6, 11-9.

The Huskies will host the Bloomsburg Invitational Sept. 11-12.
