Bloomsburg Women's Tennis Earn All-PSAC Honors

BLOOMSBURG—Three Bloomsburg University women's tennis players, Iida Hokkanen (Helsinki, Finland), Emily Murphy (Worcester/Methacton) and Tori Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY /Harborfields) have earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honors in voting by the league's coaches. In addition, coach Marty Coyne was named the PSAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Hokkanen, a sophomore, played at number one singles for the Huskies in 2004-05 and posted a record of 14-10. One of her biggest wins of the season came in the NCAA regional against Millersville when she rallied from a set down to win in three sets. Hokkanen, who was also named the team MVP, won nine of her last 11 matches of the year. Hokkanen was the PSAC and ITA East Region Rookie of the Year and a first team All-PSAC choice as a freshman.

Murphy, a sophomore, posted a record of 11-15 for the season. Playing most of the year at number two and three singles, Murphy was 9-9 at those spots. Murphy was a second team All-PSAC selection as a freshman.

Cunningham, a freshman, led the Huskies in wins with 18 while playing mainly at four and five for the Huskies. She won eight of her last 10 matches, including a three-set thriller in the PSAC finals against Kutztown. Cunningham also earned PSAC Player of the Week honors in mid-April after leading the Huskies to a pair of wins.

Coyne, who just completed his 11th season as head coach of the women's team, guided the Huskies to a 13-7 record, the PSAC championship and a berth in the NCAA regionals in 2004-05. The PSAC title was the fifth in school history, while the NCAA berth was the 10th in school history. Overall, Coyne has posted a mark of 158-49 in his career as women's coach and now has four PSAC Coach of the Year Awards.
